Scholarship Process

How Are Scholarships Awarded?

Each application is read and evaluated by at least three people. After all the applications have been read, a committee meets to determine which student is the best fit for each scholarship, based on the scholarship criteria and the student's application.

All applicants are notified whether or not they are selected for a Green River College Foundation scholarship:

  • Notification is sent by mail - be sure to update your address with the Green River College Foundation if your address changes after submitting your application.
  • Notification letters are mailed in July for most scholarships.
  • You will be asked to write a letter of thanks if you accept your scholarship.
  • You have 30 days to notify the Foundation whether or not you accept the scholarship. If you decide not to accept the scholarship, it will be awarded to another student.
  • After you accept your Scholarship, a scholarship account will be set up for you by the Financial Aid Office.

Your scholarship will be divided over the quarters that you indicated on your scholarship application you would be attending.

You should also expect to:

  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, make satisfactory academic progress and follow the Green River College Rules of Student Conduct. Your scholarship may have a higher minimum GPA and require that you are enrolled in a specific Program of Study
  • Release to Green River College and Green River College Foundation the right to use your name, application materials and picture for publications, reports and press releases, in both print and electronic media.
  • The Green River College Foundation may ask you to share your story in a publication or by speaking at a Foundation event.
  • You may be invited to an individual lunch or meeting with your scholarship sponsor.

Green River College Foundation scholarships may only be used for tuition, fees, books and required supplies at Green River College.
