Scholarship Criteria

Green River College Foundation Scholarships are awarded based on many different criteria that can be grouped into the following categories:

Need Based Scholarships:

  • Demonstrate that financial support is necessary for you to complete your college education; this does not need to be based on federal financial aid standards. There are some need based scholarships specifically for Single Parents.  You must be a single parent with at least one dependent child living in your home.  

Program Based Scholarships:

The following programs of study have program based scholarships.  Some program based scholarships also have need based criteria.

1 Education: teaching in K-12

2 Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Water/Waste Water, or Geology

3 Social Science: Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology


Merit Based Scholarships:          

  • Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0 (either high school or college)
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Involvement in extracurricular or community activities

General Scholarships:

  • Some Green River College Foundation scholarships require only that they be used at Green River College for tuition, fees, and required books and supplies. Although need and merit are considered in awarding these scholarships, they have no specific criteria.

Summer Completion Scholarships:

  • Summer Completion scholarships are only for current Green River College students who are completing their studies in Summer 2018.

Transfer scholarships:

  • Two Green River Foundation transfer scholarships are available. These scholarships are only for current Green River students transferring to a 4-year public school in Washington State in Fall 2017. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA at Green River to apply for these scholarships.
    • The Sharp/Connelly Family Transfer scholarship is only for a U.S.citizen who is transferring to UW, WSU, CWU, WWU, or EWU.
    • The Mark and DeLaine Emmert Transfer scholarship is for any Green River student (including International Students) transferring to the UW.
